"Gender in film ...

... at the end of the twentieth century"

... is a book edited by Murray Pomerance
having to do with the roles of males and females
in the last twenty years or so of movies.

On page 283 we find the picture below
of Johnny Depp as William Blake

On page 284 starts chapter 17 by Michael DeAngelis called;
Gender and Other Transcendences:
William Blake as Johnny Depp.

In the chapter Mr. DeAngelis tries to explain the movie Deadman by Jim Jarmusch and made in the year 1995.
And talks at length about Johnny Depp's way of identifying with outsiders of all kind both in his work and his private life.
The book is very positive against Johnny and what little else I have managed to read so far seems very interesting to me so I would recommend reading the book if the subject has your interest :-)

I have to add though that it is written in a rather difficult language for a foreigner to read - a lot of long words to be specific ;-)
But it is of course not written for foreigners - and this Danish fan is willing to struggle through it to read nice words about Johnny :-D
... and I might have had difficulties with the long words in Danish too *blush*
