He was born on the ninth of June 1962 at 8.44 AM in the small town of Owenboro, Kentucky, but when he was seven
his parents moved the family to the equally small town Miramar in Florida where Johnny grew up.
Johnny Depp started
his movie carreer at the age of 21 by being eaten by a bed in Wes Cravenīs horror movie "Nightmare On Elm Street" (yes,
thatīs the one with Freddy Krueger) But people didnīt really start noticing Johnny before he played the young undercover
cop Tommy Hanson in TV series "21 Jump Street" in the years 1987-1990)
1986 saw Johnny play the soldier/interpreter Lerner in Oliver Stones "Platoon" And because he was really tired of
his image as delicious teenage idol he did his very, very best to smash it to pieces by playing the title role in John Watersī
movie "Cry Baby" which became his only real teen age movie.
When Tim Burton was in the marked to find actors
for his movie "Edward Scissorhand" Johnny was positive that Burton wouldnīt dream of using "TV-boy" (Johnny) to
play the role of his sensitive anti hero Edward. But even though the movie company suggested Burton such names as Tom
Cruise and Michael Jackson for the part Burton couldnīt imagine anybody beside Johnny as the heart breaker
with scissor instead of hands. And Johnny again showed his talent and desire for playing the weird and different but very
lovable roles.
Johnny continued choosing same kind of roles by acting in Lasse Hallstrømīs movie "Whatīs
eating Gilbert Grape" where he was the most normal amongst a collection of very odd family members. He then played in "Ed
Wood" which is about the "worldīs worst director"
In "Don Juan DeMarco" Johnny portraited the "world greatest lover" "Donnie Brasco" had him playing a FBI-agent going
undercover in the mob - a story based on the real life experience of FBI-agent Joseph Pistone.
Directing his own movie "The
Brave" showed that Johnny had talents for the work on both side of the camera, since he play the lead at the same time as
directing.
Terry Gilliamīs movie "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" made us see the world through quite different eyes. Where as in
"The Ninth Gate" Johnny played a man, who wanted to meet the Devil.
It is difficult to decide whether he is a good or a bad husband - human or alien - in "The Astronaut's Wife" But
in "Sleepy Hollow" he is chasing the Headless Horseman and in yet another Hallstrôm movie Johnny helps making
life sweeter for the inhabitants of a small French village.

The last two movies we have seen Johnny in here in Denmark are his work in the biographically
movie Blow playing real life drug dealer George Jung. And his Victorian police detective Frederick Abberline who
tried to stop Jack the Ripper in the movie From Hell.
In his private life Johnny Depp is most widely known for his at time tempestous love affairs with well known,
beautiful and talented women like Sherilyn Fenn, Jennifer Grey, Winona Ryder and Kate Moss.
But lately it seems he has settled down in a life of homely bliss with French singer and actor Vanessa Paradis,
with whom he has two children at the moment; a daughter Lily Rose Melody and a son Jack.
